Exploring the Influence of Geographic Region and Cultural Indulgence on Tactile Behaviors

In this study, touch behavior was monitored via live-feed webcams in 18 bars, spread across 5 continents (North America, South Europe, Australia, and Asia) for 213 hours. Our findings offer support a link between equatorial proximity (measured by latitude) cultural indulgence with more tactile communication. cultures where versus restraint normative, those perceived as females initiated both opposite- same- sex dyads. Moreover, closer to the equator, there an increase frequency number of body locations touched. Housed within these is idea that geographical location may play predictable role motivating development communication norms behaviors. We consider influence sunlight, topography, history, other culture-specific forces on norms.
